Field Story, January 27th 2024
Monday, it rained and poured a lot! We don’t see that much rain in the desert at County Line Harvest. It was nice, but poses challenges too. The ground was very muddy, and I’m sure harvesting the next day wasn’t easy.
The morning after the rain, I take a walk to the spigarello field, to see beautiful droplets of water on the leaves. The spigarello that will be harvested for everyone in a few days.
The next day I walk to the flower field. As you can imagine, it was pretty muddy from the day before. This is a little garden section with a few things that make me feel happy, and something I can share with you.
That night I go out to harvest spinach and dill for our dinner. Guess what I’m going to make....
It was a cozy dinner in bed kind of night, with a special treat of warm pasta.
Spinach Sauce
Ingredients
- Spinach, about 1 bunch, washed
- Olive Oil
- 1 Lemon
- Chili Oil Crunch
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Blend a little olive oil with the raw spinach and juice of 1 lemon. Add a spoonful of chili crunch oil, salt and pepper. Pour the sauce on top of your favorite pasta.
- (Chili crunch oil is made with chili flakes, oil, and crispy garlic.)
There are lessons every day, some tougher than others. For example, this morning I was on my way to LA, and I ran out to the field in my flip flops. I had to get going, but I wanted to share more flowers. I knew I shouldn’t do it in flip flops, but I did. I’m sure you can guess what happened in the mud, half way there. I ran into a spot on the side of the field, and sunk into it. As I pulled my feet out, I broke the best flip flops!
It was another reminder to slow down and take better care. I’m off to the shoe repair. I’ll share more flowers next time. :)
Take care everyone~
